Origin - Established as a Hunting Reserve on 16-04-1938.
Classification - National Park, II, since 11-04-1957.
Location - North of Angola, 75 kilometers from Luanda, between the Atlantic Ocean, the Cuanza River and the Longa River.
Area - Occupies 9,600 km².
Geographic Limits - 09 09' to 10 23' South Latitude and 13 09' to 14 08' East Longitude.
Natural Limits - Limited to the North by the Cuanza River from Muxima to the sea, to the South by the Longa River from the Mumbondo-Capolo road to the sea, to the West by the coastline between the mouth of the Cuanza River and the mouth of the Longa River and, to the east, along the road that goes from Muxima, Demba-Chio, Mumbondo and Capolo to the Longa River.
Description - The vegetation varies greatly from the banks of the Cuanza to the interior of the Park, with mangroves, dense forest, forest-savannah mosaic, open forest and tropical dry forest with cacti and baobab trees.
It is not surprising that such a variety of vegetation results in an abundant and varied fauna.
There are African Manatees (Trichechus senegalensis), Red Sables (Hippotragus Equinus), Talapoins (Miopithecus talapoin) and Sea Turtles. There is also a wide variety of birds.
Visitors - The Park has an establishment for visitors next to the Cuanza River, a Inn and several bungalows.
The creation of a luxury establishment oriented towards sport fishing, the beach, cruises is planned in Cuanza, etc.
