Luanda will host International Summit to stimulate investment and tourism development

From the 17th to the 19th of June 2026, Luanda will become the African capital of investment in tourism, by hosting the Angola Investment Summit, announced the Ministry of Tourism.

Under the high patronage of the President of the Republic, João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, Angola will host, from 17 to 19 June 2026, the Angola Investment Summit, an initiative of the Ministry of Tourism, held in partnership with the Global Tourism Forum Institute (GTFI), one of the most prestigious international platforms for promoting investment and tourism development," the statement reads.
Thus, over the course of three days, "Luanda will be the main African stage for discussions on investment, economic development, tourism, innovation and international cooperation, bringing together government leaders, investors, financial institutions, specialists, entrepreneurs and representatives of international organisations from various regions of the world."

The summit comes at a particularly relevant moment for Angola's international projection and for establishing tourism as one of the strategic sectors of national economic diversification," the statement indicates, adding that "the event aims to promote concrete investment opportunities, strengthen public-private partnerships and drive new projects capable of generating employment, economic growth and sustainable development.

According to the ministry, this year's edition "is expected to bring together more than one thousand high-level participants, including sovereign wealth funds, development banks, institutional investors, global tourism operators, hotel groups, business leaders, political decision-makers and international specialists, transforming Luanda into a true global forum for economic dialogue and business development in Africa."
During the programme, participants will analyse "investment trends, financing mechanisms, business opportunities and development models applied to the sectors of tourism, hospitality, aviation, infrastructure, digital transformation and the sustainable economy, areas considered fundamental for the growth of Angola and the African continent."

"More than a sectoral meeting, the Angola Investment Summit 2026 establishes itself as a strategic platform to present Angola's economic potential to the world, strengthen the confidence of international investors and consolidate the country's position as one of the most promising markets for investment in Africa," the statement further notes.

Angola received more than 1400 international tourists on board four cruise ships in April

A movement that reinforces the country's growth as an emerging destination in maritime tourism.

According to the Ministry of Tourism, the stopovers in Luanda and Namibe strengthen the country’s strategic positioning in the sector, highlighting the growing interest of international operators.

The highlight took place on April 5, when the Port of Luanda received, for the first time, two ships simultaneously — the SH Diana and the Vasco da Gama — with hundreds of tourists on board, in what was considered a historic milestone for national tourism.
Days later, the country once again became the stage for a new wave of visitors with the arrival of the Silver Wind and the Viking Sky, the latter carrying around 780 passengers.

During the stopovers, tourists visited emblematic sites such as the Iron Palace, the Fortress of São Miguel, and the Agostinho Neto Mausoleum, in addition to exploring the historic Baía dos Tigres, in Namibe.

The economic impact is also already being felt, with increased demand in the hotel, restaurant, transport, and trade sectors, clearly showing that Angola is beginning to establish itself as a competitive tourist destination with the potential to attract even more visitors in the coming years.

The educational mission of a museum, regardless of its nature, is just as important as its scientific mission.
Museums are also places where the relationship between culture and nature is demonstrated, and there is a growing number of museums focusing their interests on science, nature, and technology.
In Angola, the National Museum of Natural History (created on September 8, 1943) is a public institution of a scientific nature.

Its fundamental objective is the research, classification, conservation, and inventory of Angolan biodiversity.
It presents permanent and temporary exhibitions on various aspects related to environmental conservation and biodiversity management.

International Museum Day reminds us that preserving memory is essential to understanding the past, valuing the present, and building the future.

Luanda attracts investors in the Tourism sector

The Global Tourism Forum (GTF) will bring together in Luanda, on June 18 and 19, international investors, policymakers, and industry leaders at the Angola Investment Summit to discuss new investment opportunities in Africa.

The meeting aims to position tourism as a driver of development, opening space for investment in areas such as hospitality, aviation, renewable energy, and digital transformation. The goal is to accelerate projects and create new connections between international capital and African markets. Angola assumes a central role as an emerging investment destination, benefiting from economic reforms, infrastructure expansion, and abundant natural resources. The country seeks to strengthen its commitment to economic diversification, with tourism gaining prominence in its growth strategy.

According to Angola’s Minister of Tourism, Márcio de Jesus Lopes Daniel, the country is experiencing "a decisive moment in its development trajectory," creating conditions to attract sustainable investment and international partnerships. "We welcome global stakeholders to discover the vast opportunities our country offers and to be part of a transformative chapter in Angola’s growth story," the official added in a statement sent to JN.

With more than one thousand participants expected, the program includes high-level panels, closed-door investment meetings, business-to-business (B2B) sessions, and networking opportunities. The province of Luanda recorded this Sunday (April 5) the arrival of two cruise ships carrying around 300 tourists, in transit to other destinations, an initiative that reinforces the capital’s positioning as a strategic tourist destination in Angola.

According to the Provincial Director of Culture and Tourism, Gersy Pegado, the presence of these visitors represents “a very large window of opportunities” for the country.
“We have been experiencing an influx of tourists; today alone we have 300 visitors who are already integrated into various tourist circuits,” she highlighted.

According to the official, Luanda has been consolidating itself as a regular stop for international cruise ships, with more than 60 vessels already recorded over recent years.
She mentioned that the strategy is to enhance cultural tourism by combining gastronomy, music, dance, and historical heritage as key attraction factors.
According to the general director of the company TravelGest, José Cabral, who oversees the logistical operations of the cruises, before docking at the Port of Luanda, the ship coming from Cape Town, South Africa, made stopovers in Namibia and Baía dos Tigres in Moçâmedes, in the Namibe province.

He noted that this ship carries around 37 tourists, mostly Swiss, American, and British.
He explained that the tourists’ visit includes a city tour of the main landmarks of the city, such as the Museum of Anthropology, the Fortress, and the Iron Palace, followed by lunch on Luanda Island.
He also informed that during their stay in Luanda, visitors will have the opportunity to visit Mussulo Island, in an experience designed to combine leisure with contact with local culture.
For José Cabral, the growing number of stopovers in the national territory demonstrates the country’s potential in this sector.

“We have been working with the Ministry of Tourism and other entities. Each ship that arrives gives visibility to Angola and shows that we have the capacity to receive large vessels,” he stated.
In turn, the commander of the ship Vasco da Gama, Adrian Firsov, of Romanian nationality, explained that the vessel carries Portuguese and German tourists, as well as crew members of various nationalities.

“Our main objective is to provide the best moments of happiness and a memorable experience for our tourists throughout the journeys,” he stated.
He noted that during the short stay, passengers will have the opportunity to explore some points of the Angolan capital, with emphasis on experiences related to nature, the coastline, and local gastronomy, especially fish-based dishes.
He explained that despite the interest in exploring more of the country, the stay will be brief. “The ship will remain in Luanda for only one day, departing this Sunday afternoon for the next destination, which is Cape Verde.”

According to the captain, the journey to Cape Verde should last around seven days, after which tourists will continue their itinerary across the African continent.
The stopover reinforces Angola’s positioning in the international cruise circuit, at a time when the country has been recording an increase in the number of ships and tourists seeking to discover its cultural and landscape diversity. MEL/AJQ

The strength of contemporary African literature gains new life on stage with the theatrical adaptation of Niketche, a work by Mozambican writer Paulina Chiziane, one of the most prominent voices of Portuguese-language fiction on the continent.
Presented in an international touring format, the play is the result of a co-production between Kafukolo 5 and Luarte, directed by Eliot Alex, and travels across several Angolan provinces, bringing a profoundly relevant text closer to diverse audiences.

Originally published in 2002, Niketche: A Story of Polygamy became an essential reference in African literature.
The narrative follows Rami, a woman who discovers that her husband maintains several simultaneous relationships.

Instead of assuming the role of a silent victim, the protagonist builds a path of awareness and transformation, questioning the limits imposed by society and reinventing her own narrative.
